SAINT-HYMER - 14130
Saint- Hymer mainly owes his notoriety to his priory, founded by Hugues de Montfort between 1066 and 1077. Coming back from the "Holy Land" pilgrimage, he is said to have stopped by the "Valley Saint- Hymer" in the diocese of Bâle in Switzerland. At his return in Normandy and finding in this peaceful small valley a resemblance to the Valley St-Hymer, Hugues de Montfort wanted to found this pious house here. The historians believe little in this legand, however, how would Hymer have arrived in the 11th century in this parts of the Pays d'Auge? Saint-Hymer was a hermit who lived during the 7th century in this small valley of the canton of Berne which bears today his name. This village in its "straming" valley knew how to preserve this calm which makes the charm of our small comunes from the Auge country
